Blood Pressure Supplements at Walmart: What to Check Before the Cart
Blood pressure supplements Walmart carries are ordinary dietary supplements, sold without FDA approval. The shelf tag says little; the Supplement Facts panel says more. Check the serving size, whether amounts are printed, and your medicines. Melonex lists one 500 mg blend of three names with no amounts, and we know of no store listing for it.

Are blood pressure supplements at Walmart approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold, and it does not decide beforehand whether they work (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements).
A shelf tag such as "heart health" is a label claim. It must carry the line that the FDA has not evaluated it (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements). Read that line as a reminder, not as small print.
We know of no Walmart listing for Melonex. It is sold through the brand's sales site, linked from this site's order buttons.
What should you read first on a supplement label?
Start with the Supplement Facts panel, not the front. The front sells; the panel counts.
Look for the serving size, the servings per bottle and whether each ingredient shows its own amount in milligrams. Then look at the line under the panel for other ingredients and the caution text.
Melonex is a clean example. Tap the numbered spots to see what its panel prints and what it leaves out.
Tap a number to see that part of the label.
- Serving
Serving size is 1 capsule; the container holds 60 servings.
- Proprietary Blend 500 mg
The one line of the panel. 500 mg is the combined weight of everything in the blend.
- Three names
L-Citrulline DL-Malate, L-Arginine (Alpha-Ketoglutarate dihydrate), L-Arginine HCL, listed from most to least by weight. No amount for any of them.
- Daily Value
The dagger note: Daily Value not established.
What does a 'proprietary blend' line hide?
A proprietary blend gives one total weight for a group of ingredients. It does not have to give the weight of each one.
Federal rules say the names inside a blend go in descending order by weight (21 CFR 101.36, Supplement Facts). That order lets you do small sums.
| Name on the label | Place | What the order allows |
|---|---|---|
| L-Citrulline DL-Malate | First | At least 167 mg, under 500 mg |
| L-Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate | Second | At most 250 mg |
| L-Arginine HCl | Third | At most 167 mg |
These are salt weights, so the amino acid itself is less. Studies of the amino acids used grams a day, and the whole blend is half a gram. See the 500 mg blend for the full arithmetic.

See packsWho should ask a pharmacist before buying a shelf supplement?
Anyone who takes a prescription, is pregnant or nursing, is under 18, or has a heart condition should ask first. Supplements can interact with medicines (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements consumer sheet).
Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering and Cleveland Clinic all advise against arginine after a heart attack (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) (MSK, Arginine) (Cleveland Clinic, L-arginine). Several also name blood pressure medicines as a reason to check (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine).
- Bring the bottle, not a photo of the front.
- Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed (AHA, Managing BP Medications).
- Chest pain, trouble breathing or face, arm or speech changes mean 911 (AHA, Warning Signs of a Heart Attack) (CDC, Signs and Symptoms of Stroke).

FAQ01
Melonex questions people ask
Does Walmart sell Melonex?
We know of no Walmart listing for Melonex. The capsules are sold on the brand's sales site, reached from this site's order buttons. A listing from a third-party seller may not be genuine or covered by the 60-day guarantee.
Is a store-bought heart supplement safer than one bought online?
Not automatically. Counterfeit risk is higher with third-party sellers on online marketplaces (Consumer Reports, Counterfeits Online), but a store shelf does not test a product either. Check the seal, the lot reference and the full Supplement Facts panel in both cases.
How many capsules come in one Melonex bottle?
A bottle holds 60 capsules. At the label's one capsule a day that lasts 60 days; at the two-capsule limit it lasts 30 days. The label does not print the amount of each ingredient inside the 500 mg blend.
